Friends had frequently told me about the incredible variety of things to do in the Mornington Peninsula, from visiting wineries to relaxing at the beach, wandering through hedge mazes or floating away in hot springs. So when I came across a group buying deal for a two-night stay at Quarters at Flinders Hotel, I immediately snapped it up. Mornington Peninsula is an easy 60-90 minute drive from Melbourne (depending on where you start from), with Flinders Hotel located on the eastern side of the peninsula. The hotel’s location means that it’s only a few minutes walk to the closest beach and Flinders Pier.

Check-in was super fast and staff were extremely friendly, so it was only a few minutes after arriving that we were checking out our digs for the weekend. The voucher was for the Westall Room, which was fairly spacious and featured a king bed, flat-screen TV, desk and a couple of armchairs with a small coffee table. In a nice touch, the mini bar items were largely local food products; and free wifi can also be accessed. Our particular room was on the ground floor, so the far wall of the room was actually made up entirely of glass, with a door opening out to a patio area.

A continental breakfast is included in the room rate, and is served in the dining room at The Deck, which is the Flinders Hotel’s casual dining restaurant. The usual toast, cereal and muesli, as well as fruit juice, milk, tea and coffee are provided in a buffet, and on both mornings, it was well patronised.
The Mornington Peninsula is famous for its food and wine, so it is no surprise that there are a number of excellent restaurants and wineries within a 20 minute drive from the hotel. Indeed, Flinders Hotel itself has a Good Food Guide Chef’s Hatted restaurant on its premises – Terminus. We had unfortunately failed to make a booking in advance, so we weren’t able to try it out, but we will definitely endeavour to come back soon because the menu looks incredible.
Also just down the road from the hotel was Mornington Peninsula Chocolates, which sells gorgeous chocolates and macarons. We spent close to half an hour in the small store, just deciding what to buy! I don’t remember exactly which varieties we ended up getting, but we did buy an assortment of artisan chocolates and macarons, which I do remember were all delicious!

TL;DR
- We really enjoyed our experience at Flinders Hotel – its location was great, within an easy walk or drive to the beach, cafes, restaurants, gourmet food stores, wineries and hot springs
- Our room was good-sized and modern, the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and free wifi was a bonus
- Will definitely return to try Terminus and to buy more chocolates!
