I have to admit that I haven’t really eaten much Greek food in my life. The odd souvlaki or the occasional haloumi salad (although I really do love haloumi!), but I can’t remember the last time I went to a Greek restaurant. Gazi in the Melbourne CBD was suggested by an old school friend for our very long overdue catch-up, and when she gave me the address, I was surprised to find that it was ridiculously close to where I work, yet I had never noticed it. As I always do before going to a new restaurant, I checked out the menu and I was immediately drawn to the soft shell crab souvlakakia.
So I’ve become quite a fan of these online food delivery services – a huge selection of restaurants on a single website, filtered by those that deliver to your suburb – makes deciding what to have for dinner pretty easy! I was recently approached by Menulog to do a review of their service and I was definitely keen to try it out. After entering your postcode into the search box, you’re taken to a listing of restaurants that deliver to your suburb (and any specials they are running) and from there it’s the difficult task of deciding where to order from!
While I love to bake, I’m not so confident with cooking ‘proper’ food for meals, which means that home delivery is a blessing on those (frequent) days when I haven’t planned ahead for dinner. The main issue is deciding where to order from, as I tend to just order from my ‘regulars’, which is where EatNow comes in handy. I was recently asked to review this online home delivery service which allows you to search for restaurants that deliver to your area and order from any of them using interactive takeaway menus. Latin American restaurants seem to be popping up all over the place lately, and after checking out the menu at Argentine-born chef Oscar Gorosito’s Bridge St Garage, I was keen to visit. As I only managed to get there during a workday lunch, I wasn’t able to sample as much of the menu as I would like, but the food I tried was impressive enough for me to plan another visit. After much deliberation, I eventually went for the soft shell crab salad which is probably one of the most appealing salads I’ve ever seen.
My birthday this year fell on a Monday. This is generally not an issue because I usually have a Chinese dinner banquet with my family and Chinese restaurants are open every day of the week. Unfortunately, my parents were overseas and it was decided that we would do my birthday dinner the day after. My attempts to find a restaurant for dinner with my boyfriend on the Monday were not promising to begin with. My first choice Thai restaurant was under new management and was closed on Mondays. My second choice Japanese restaurant was also closed on Mondays. Eventually, by virtue of it actually being open, we entered my third choice Khao Pla in Chatswood, and I have to say, I’m pretty glad we did. Continue reading
